Purpose of the Role
The primary responsibility of a Fire Fighter at Sasol is to protect company assets and personnel from risks related to safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHERQ) incidents.
Fire fighters play a critical role in emergency response, helping manage incidents such as fires, hazardous material situations, and other safety emergencies within the company’s operations.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will perform various duties related to emergency management and firefighting operations, including:
- Applying Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHE) best practices in all emergency management activities
- Performing duties according to established procedures and instructions
- Participating in training to maintain mental and physical fitness for emergency response situations
- Taking part in Key Performance Area (KPA) and Personal Development Plan (PDP) discussions
- Ensuring performance targets and development plans are achieved
- Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Responding effectively to emergency incidents
- Reconditioning and maintaining firefighting and life-support equipment
- Servicing portable firefighting equipment across plants and buildings
- Identifying opportunities to improve emergency management maintenance activities
- Suggesting improvements for safety and operational effectiveness
- Participating in housekeeping and safety compliance activities
Minimum Educational Requirements
Applicants must meet the following education criteria:
- Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics or an equivalent qualification
- Must be medically fit, according to the required firefighter fitness assessment standards
Preferred Qualifications (Advantageous)
The following certifications will be considered an advantage:
- Fire Fighter Level 1 and Level 2 (NFPA 1001)
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) with current BAA (Basic Ambulance Assistant) / BLS certification or First Aid Level 3
- HPCSA registered Intermediate Life Support (ILS) qualification
- Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certification (NFPA 1072 / NFPA 472)

Working Experience
- 0–5 years of relevant experience in firefighting, emergency response, or safety-related roles.
